Flat multidirectional conveyor transfer for automated sorting

Automated sorting lines in logistics centers, parcel hubs, and intralogistics facilities increasingly require compact transfer modules that maintain product stability at high speeds. IIn this context, ITOH DENKI introduced the F-RAT NX flat multidirectional transfer module for conveyor-based sorting applications.

Transfer at the same level
The F-RAT NX is designed for 90-degree parcel transfer without vertical movement. Unlike lift-and-transfer mechanisms, the module keeps infeed and outfeed at the same height, eliminating vertical motion that can introduce vibration or product shift. This approach is particularly relevant for mixed loads, including fragile or unstable items.

The module operates on 24 V DC and uses brushless motorized rollers combined with a wheel-and-roller transfer mechanism. By avoiding lifting actions, the system reduces mechanical stress on conveyed items and simplifies integration into existing conveyor layouts.

Throughput and load range
According to the specified performance data, the module can reach throughput levels of up to 2,250 parcels per hour at a 50% transfer rate. This positions it for use in medium- to high-speed automated sorting environments such as distribution centers and e-commerce fulfillment facilities.

The transfer design supports a wide variety of loads, from flexible envelopes to cartons weighing up to 50 kg. Handling such mixed product flows is a common requirement in modern distribution operations that form part of a broader digital supply chain.

Integration into existing conveyor systems
Because all entry and exit points remain at the same level, the module can be installed or retrofitted into existing conveyor lines without major structural modifications. Multiple units can be combined to create more complex sorting or sequencing systems, allowing system designers to scale layouts according to throughput and routing requirements.

The F-RAT NX is offered in more than 15 standard width configurations ranging from 595 mm to 895 mm. Its overall height of 125 mm allows installation in conveyor frames where vertical space is limited.

Safety and mechanical design
The module is powered by a 24 V DC supply and designed with gaps of less than 5 mm between moving parts. These characteristics support integration into conveyor systems designed to meet CE safety requirements by reducing pinch-point risks for operators working near the equipment.

Construction features include steel rollers and polyurethane (PU) wheels, selected for durability under continuous operation. The design also emphasizes simplified maintenance, supporting high availability in logistics environments where downtime directly affects throughput.

Controls and connectivity
The F-RAT NX can be used with standard controller kits and is compatible with industrial communication protocols including Profinet and EtherNet/IP. This enables integration into automated sorting systems where transfer modules operate as networked nodes within centralized control architectures.
