Logéos is the logistics subsidiary of Groupe Sofia, a family-owned company specialising in home improvement, gardening and cleaning products. As a fourth-party logistics (4PL) provider, Logéos manages storage and order fulfilment for the group's businesses, supporting both B2B and B2C distribution.

To support continued business growth, the company opened a new 36,000 m² logistics centre in Puceul, France. The facility manages more than 10,000 stock keeping units (SKUs), processes up to 9,000 customer orders per day and dispatches approximately 15 outbound trucks daily.

Before the new facility was commissioned, inventory management relied largely on spreadsheets and ERP-based processes, while operations were spread across several warehouses. The company required a more integrated logistics solution capable of centralising inventory, increasing productivity and providing real-time visibility across all warehouse activities.

To achieve these objectives, Logéos implemented a comprehensive warehouse automation solution from Mecalux, combining an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS), warehouse management software and pallet racking systems.

Automating storage and order fulfilment
A central element of the new warehouse is the automated miniload AS/RS for tote storage, designed to improve inventory handling while supporting high-volume order fulfilment.

The installation comprises a single 30-metre aisle with 10-metre-high racking capable of storing 5,224 totes. Standardised storage containers simplify product handling while enabling first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory management across multiple customer inventories.

Automated stacker cranes retrieve products and deliver them directly to two goods-to-person picking stations equipped with put-to-light technology. Four additional workstations support order consolidation and sorting before dispatch.

According to Thomas Maria, Logistics Operations Manager at Logéos, the automated system increased the number of picking stations while improving picking accuracy, operator ergonomics and overall warehouse efficiency.

The system was also designed with future expansion in mind. Additional aisles can be added to the AS/RS, allowing storage capacity and throughput to be tripled as customer demand grows.

Warehouse management software coordinates operations
To manage the facility, Logéos deployed Mecalux Easy WMS, which coordinates every warehouse process from goods receipt through storage, picking and dispatch.

The warehouse management system provides real-time inventory traceability while integrating operations across both the automated tote storage system and selective pallet racking. By centralising warehouse information within a single platform, the software provides operators with comprehensive dashboards for inventory control and operational monitoring.

Specialised software modules were also implemented to optimise specific warehouse functions. Multi-Carrier Shipping Software streamlines packing and shipping activities, Slotting for WMS determines optimal storage locations to improve picking efficiency, and WMS for 3PL enables customised workflows for individual customers while improving inventory traceability and service quality.

According to Logéos, the integrated software platform has significantly improved operational control while supporting the company's multi-client logistics model.

Improving productivity and working conditions
Beyond increasing throughput, warehouse automation has also improved working conditions for employees.

Goods-to-person picking reduces operator travel throughout the warehouse, while ergonomic workstations minimise physical strain during order preparation. Automated replenishment and robotic parcel sorting further support a continuous flow of goods while reducing manual handling requirements.

The consolidation of operations into a single facility has also simplified inventory management and improved coordination across customer accounts.




Results
The implementation of Mecalux's warehouse automation and warehouse management solution enabled Logéos to centralise operations previously distributed across multiple facilities while significantly improving logistics performance.

The company reports that productivity has doubled since the new logistics centre became operational. The facility now manages more than 10,000 SKUs in real time, fulfils up to 9,000 orders per day and dispatches approximately 15 trucks daily. The automated warehouse has also improved picking accuracy, inventory visibility and operator ergonomics, while providing a scalable platform that can triple storage capacity and throughput through future AS/RS expansion.
